About the Sustainability & Infrastructure Team

As part of the Sustainability and Infrastructure Team, you will contribute to Glen Eira’s response to climate change and sustainability challenges. The team implements strategies to promote integrated water management, reduce waste, and manage recycling services.

Your Role as a Litter Action Plan Officer

In this role, you will take charge of reducing litter within the municipality and preventing it from entering the stormwater system. As the chair of the Elster Creek Litter Collaboration Working Group, you will bring together various stakeholders to drive impactful initiatives.

You will also be responsible for consolidating these efforts into a comprehensive Litter Action Plan that focuses on education, community engagement, and enforcement strategies to promote sustainable behavior.

Key Responsibilities

As the Litter Action Plan Officer, your responsibilities include:

  • Strategic Planning and Coordination:
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive Litter Action Plan based on priority initiatives.
    • Chair the Elster Creek Litter Collaboration Working Group.
    • Work with teams such as the Infrastructure and Assets Team and Circular Economy Team to minimize litter impacts.
  • Community Engagement and Education:
    • Create and execute communication strategies to educate the community about litter prevention.
    • Develop engagement plans and materials to foster community awareness.
  • Implementation of Maintenance and Infrastructure Initiatives:
    • Coordinate the delivery of previously identified priority maintenance and infrastructure actions.
    • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure effective implementation.
  • Tracking and Reporting:
    • Monitor and report on the progress of multiple project elements.
    • Use data to evaluate the effectiveness of initiatives and refine strategies.

Who Are We Looking For?

You are passionate about sustainability, have experience in project management, and are confident working with diverse stakeholders. You thrive in an environment where collaboration and strategic thinking are key to success.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualifications in litter, waste, or water management (or significant experience in a related field).
  • Proven ability to develop, prioritize, and complete tasks within deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, including report writing and public engagement.
  • Confidence in using data to inform decisions and strategies.
  • Capability to obtain Authorised Officer authority under the Environmental Protection Act 2017.
  • Experience in tracking and reporting on multi-element projects.

Highly Desirable:

  • Local government experience is a plus, though not essential.
